Homeschool Parenting Discipline and Motivation: Dad’s Bailiwick

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Homeschool parenting discipline and encouragement and motivation …An informal poll gleaned these responses from a group of homeschooling Moms who were asked, What do you want from your husbands? The unanimous consensus was: Yes, we Moms do most of the actual teaching, but Fathers play a vital role in home education.

Dr. Mark Lowery, professor at the University of Dallas and a homeschooling Father, writes, In a word, a crucial contribution to the homeschool on the part of the father is his attitude toward his wife. Needless to say, children pick up very quickly on the quality of the relationship between their two parents and are profoundly influenced by it.

Homeschool parenting discipline problems are greatly reduced (or disappear) when Dad takes an active role. If a problem arises, just a continual monitoring of the situation by Dad may be all that is needed.

The youngster needs to know very clearly and consistently what is expected. Show him/her examples of obedience and the other virtues. Study the Bible, lives of the saints and heroes of history.

The child must know that there are consequences for disobedience and what they are.

Before leaving for work, Dad reminds the child 1) to obey his Mother and 2) that Dad will be ‘phoning to check on everyone.

Dad calls during the workday to see how things are going at home.

If necessary, he can talk to the offender him/her self on the ‘phone to quickly remind him of expectations and consequences.

When he arrives home, Dad checks with each child. He asks how the day went, what the youngster learned, and if there any issues that need to be discussed. He makes time to listen and talk.

A Father’s encouragement is inspiration for both his wife and children. He must let them know that homeschooling is important and that he is proud of their efforts.

Dad can sincerely compliment Mom in front of the children and any and all other relatives.

He can fix up the classroom or study area. For example, Dad can build shelves, paint bookcases and refinish desks.

Buy tiny homeschool gifts. What a treat–and motivator–when the Father brings little surprises home! They can be pencils, sticky notes or colorful stickers.

When inquiring about the day’s activities, Dad honestly praises all good efforts.

A Father’s good example speaks volumes. Children naturally look up to and imitate their Dad. His strong faith and upright character quietly but surely influence them.

Dad sets the pace for homeschooling parenting discipline and encouragement and motivation. Mother and children flourish with his support and inspiration.

Dolby vs DTS: Which is Better?

Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround Sound - Identifying the main differences between these multi-channel sound formats

This Dolby vs DTS surround sound is a rather hotly debated issue. Many audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts argue that DTS surround sound formats can deliver higher quality audio in comparison to their corresponding Dolby formats, with improved dynamic range, better representation of subtle detail in audio content, and improved signal-to-noise ratio.

Partly, this reasoning arises because DTS surround sound is usually encoded at a higher data rate than Dolby Digital and its lineup of associated formats.

This is more than understandable. We are dealing with lossy compression techniques. A higher bit-rate for the same format should normally implies superior sound during playback, as less compression in the encoding process should result in a better representation of the original sound source.

In this Dolby vs DTS debate, DTS people argue that they are after ’sonic perfection, not space consumption’ - hence the higher bit rate and lower compression.

Dolby would counteract that their codec is more efficient and therefore, it can run at a lower bit rate.

In other words, one cannot simply draw conclusion on sound quality based on raw bit rates and compression figures alone; it also depends on how well designed are the encoding and decoding algorithms. And this makes sense too, but then…

There are relatively big differences in raw bit rates and compression levels when comparing Dolby vs DTS sound formats, implying a too wide a difference in codec efficiency - about 3 times as much - in favor of Dolby. Is it possible that Dolby sound formats achieve this level of codec efficiency?

The truth is that when dealing with different sound formats, the whole equation starts to get extremely complicated; it is not that easy to define what makes better sound.

This Dolby vs DTS is a much debated issue, but in reality is it true that one is better than the other?

To understand why this Dolby vs DTS surround sound controversy, it is necessary to have an understanding of the main differences between these formats. In particular, there are significant differences in bit-rate and compression levels as applicable to Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround. There are also important differences in the way these formats are implemented in movie house applications and in home entertainment.

It is not the scope of this write-up to go into these details; for the relevant information on the differences between Dolby and DTS, please read the full article appearing on Practical Home Theater Guide at www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/dolby-vs-dts.html http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/dolby-vs-dts.html .

At the same time, it is important to realize that these same differences between these two formats have actually given rise to this Dolby vs DTS controversy.

So where does this Dolby vs DTS debate leads?

Sound quality is an extremely subjective issue and therefore it is not easy to define what constitutes better sound. Opinions vary when comparing Dolby vs DTS and range from ‘DTS is better’ to ‘Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound are pretty much the same’.

..and what do we say about this Dolby vs DTS debate?

Both Dolby Digital and DTS Surround are capable of achieving similar results in delivering surround sound, even though the lower compression and higher bit-rate of DTS Digital Surround should theoretically yield apparent benefits in sound quality.

At the same time, one cannot ignore the fact that these two formats make use of different coding schemes and syntax to perceptually compress audio.

This means that efficiency in terms of data utilization between these two formats is different. Therefore, direct comparison of the respective Dolby and DTS sound formats based solely on their raw bit rates, cannot be taken as an objective measure of sound quality.

Thus, while it is objectively possible to compare the resultant sound quality for the same audio format encoded at different bit rates, say in a movie house application and in home entertainment, yet it is not so straightforward when dealing with different formats.

Rather, for identically sourced audio content, it would be much easier for the listener during Dolby vs DTS ‘blind’ listening tests to notice a change in sound quality when changing the playback equipment between different brands, than when changing from Dolby to DTS.

In other words, you need a thoroughly refined audio playback setup to bring out that subtle difference in sound quality between these two formats.

Car Financing

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

One of the biggest decisions you will have to make when it comes to buying a new car is how you are going to get the money to pay for it. The majority of people will have to think about finance options in order to make the purchase and when it comes to car financing there are many ways you can choose to go.

One of the most popular ways that many people choose to take when it comes to buying their car, simply because it is the quickest and easiest option the majority of the time, is taking the finance options available at the dealership where you buy your car. While in some cases this can work out well there are also some cons to consider. Taking a loan this way usually means that it isn’t the most competitive way and the salesman could pressure you to include add-ons to bump up the cost of the loan.

Another popular way and sometimes one which can work to your advantage especially if you take advantage of low interest rates is to go for a personal loan. By looking around online and comparing rates of interest, this is very usually the cheapest way to get car financing, one of the biggest benefits you can gain from going down this avenue is that with cash in hand you can usually get more discounts from the dealer if you pay cash outright. This however isn’t as convenient as taking finance through the dealership and means that you will have to have a figure in mind when it comes to requesting your personal loan.

When it comes to car financing without a doubt the best and first place you should to look is on the internet. Whichever type of insurance you go for you are able to get a huge amount of information and if you have decided to go for a personal loan then you can take advantage by getting several quotes for the cheapest rate of interest. It is important that you check out several because by doing so you will be able to make comparisons which ensures you are getting the best deal.

However always make sure that you know what the total amount of the loan will cost you in the end and also be aware that if you choose a bank from which to take your loan then most probably they will try adding optional payment protection insurance to the cost of the loan which can boost up the repayments a lot.

Supplies

Supplies you will need before you bring your new puppy home: The first thing you’ll need is a travel crate for your dog’s trip home. You’ll also need to buy some high quality puppy food and bowls for food and water. Your vet, breeder or shelter personnel can tell you which brands of food are the best. Other items you’ll need to get in advance of the new puppy’s arrival are: an adjustable collar, a leash, toys and bedding. Don’t forget to make an appointment with your veterinarian for your puppy’s first check-up!

No food should ever be fed to a dog unless that food is put into some type of a container. The practice of putting food on newspapers or directly on a cage floor or the ground serves no purpose except to contaminate the food from the surroundings. This method also contaminates the surroundings from the food, draw flies, increase parasite transmission and soil the dog’s coat. The money, time and energy a dog owner thinks he is saving by such feeding practices are completely wiped out by the loss of the dog, the time spent to clean floors and combat insects, or the effort needed to put a food-soiled coat back into show condition.

Crate Training

Crate training is a method by which your dog is taught to stay in a crate within your house for prolonged periods of time. This is an especially useful technique for dogs that would otherwise tear up the house when left alone. The best time to start crate training is when your dog is still a puppy. Leave him in the open crate for brief periods of time at first and then begin closing the door behind him.

Make sure that your puppy’s crate experience is always positive by giving him treats and rewards whenever he enters the crate. Once he is comfortable, you can leave him in the crate for increasing periods of time - give him his meals there as well.

Never use the crate as punishment. You want your dog to feel that his crate is a safe refuge, not a prison. Furthermore, the crate is a place where your dog can go to feel safe and secure while you and your family are away from home for a few hours. When you’re home, your dog should be out of his crate and socializing with his human family.

Obedience

Teaching basic obedience skills to a dog can be exciting as well as challenging. Having problems on where to begin? Start by doing your homework. A student can only be as good as his trainer, right?

The first lesson in obedience is to get your dog to pay attention to the commands. You want to start by calling his name and then using a keyword like “watch” or “look” afterwards. This way, he will associate the words to a command. Once you’ve got his attention, the lessons can begin.

You want your dog to be able to pay attention for a short length of time. Try keeping his attention by doing attention exercises. One example would be to hold a toy or dog treat in near your mouth and then give him the keyword command.

Each time he takes the time to watch, praise him. The more you do this exercise, the more time he should be able to pay attention to you. Try getting him to watch for at least a minute. Let him know that he is doing a good job by rewarding him. Dogs learn best this way.

Because dogs have such short attention spans, they get distracted pretty easily. Choose a place that is free of other distractions such as other pets, children or loud noises. Training sessions should only last approximately 30 minutes tops. Usually, if you go over this time limit, the dog will get restless and easily distracted.

If your dog isn’t learning very quickly, you may become frustrated. Don’t take that frustration out on your animal. A few things to remember before starting your obedience lessons:

1) Never cause pain to your dog (this will cause him to shy away or become aggressive to you.)

2) If he begins to become distracted, change the tone of your voice (this doesn’t mean raising it)

3) Consistency can not be stressed enough (animals are like children, if you’re not consistent, they will become confused as to what is expected)

Teaching your dog basic obedience commands will make for a more obedient and more pleasant dog to be around.

The first command to start off with would be to sit. You must use the word sit while teaching him so that he can relate the word with the action. Start by gently pushing his backside down and saying the word “sit.” Eventually he will catch on to the concept.

The second command is “down.” Dogs can become pretty hyper when they get excited. Jumping up on their owner’s lap is usually how they express their excitement. If you have a big dog or have other people over, you might not want them pouncing about. When they jump up, tell them “down.” Do not pet them or act excited to see them while they are on you. Continue to tell them “down,” and even place their legs down if you have to.

Next is the command of “stay.” This command is a good one to know especially if you have a rambunctious hyper dog. You can teach him stay, for example, by putting a treat or something desirable on the ground. As he moves toward it, tell him “Stay.” Another good idea would be to put your hand up while saying the word “stay.” When he begins to become obedient in this area, you can move further away from him. This will cause him to become more daring and he will probably take a step forward to see how much he can get away with. When he does this, continue to put your hand out and tell him “stay.” He has to know that even though you are moving away, you can still see what he’s doing and expect him to continue to obey.

After you’ve mastered the stay command, you will move on to the come command. Once your dog has learned to sit and stay, he will need a command to know when it’s ok to get up and approach you. They may be a bit confused at first, but with a change in the tone of your voice, he will soon understand. Put a little excitement in your voice when saying the word “come”. He will pick up on it. You might also want to pat your leg when you say come.

Stand is the last command to achieve. This is where your dog is allowed to get a little excited but not in a pouncing kind of way. When teaching your dog to stand, pat your hands on your chest and, once again, put a little excitement in your voice, so that he knows he’s aloud, under certain circumstances. He will begin to know the difference.

Teaching your dog basic obedience, if possible, should be taught as soon as you and your dog are ready. Remember be consistent with the commands and don’t forget to have fun!

Man, the Microcosm; Part 2

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Another energy-giving of great importance is the acquisition of Self-knowledge, for by such work we will ultimately be in a position to guide others to fulfill their spiritual destinies, and to relieve them from suffering. Man, in our observation, spends too much time with glamour; with fashions and fads; with ephemeral baubles that does not benefit the soul–even with too much indulgence in matters of psychic phenomena, of trying the spirits instead of investigating the inner nature of the soul; of resolving psychological imbalances and increasing the awareness of the unity and oneness of all manifestations. Adam, or unregenerated Man, should curb his desires for sensation, no matter where it may be found: in the media, TV commercials, the neighbourhood gossiper, and–this may come as a surprise to some–even in occult or New Age literature. We should end our polarization in the emotional body and climb higher up along the mountain side; we should cease dilly-dallying in the astral world; we should halt most of our attachment and indulgence with psychic matters that more often than not, only arouse pride and arrogance.

Preoccupation with carnal appetites such as sex, wealth, power, and fame eventually lead to suffering. Man wastes his time seeking peace and happiness without–depending upon external sources or environment–and if acquired, he is deluded into thinking of the permanency of such a state. Peace and happiness that are dependent upon externals are artificial and transient, for matter is in a constant state of flux; and as such, an unreliable source of experiencing the state of well-being in a constant, continuous manner. When the Nazarene Master declared My peace I give unto you, it is to the unfoldment of the Christ nature within us that is referred to, which does give us a sense of bliss. Living in harmony with the Tao, and knowledge of the True Self and the laws of the Cosmic, leads us to abundant living; it provides us with a greater perspective of life of which all seemingly injustices that we experience and encounter in the mundane sphere are understood as blessings coming from God. Before the New Jerusalem can come into existence, all of the old values, beliefs, attitudes and customs that cause spiritual stagnation and inertia would have to be destroyed, and thrown into the flames for transmutation. Alchemically, Man is both the crucible and the philosophical matter to be transformed.

It is an axiom within the world of esotericism that everything that exists is vibratory. The differences in manifestation of objects being that of a variation in its frequency, or vibratory rate. Even consciousness or one’s personality is vibratory; and the higher the rate, the higher-the soul-expression, intelligence, spirituality, level of awareness, and habitual thought-pattern. Vibration is energy-in-motion, the exhalation of Parabrahm, the pulsating Word, symbolised by the ancient swastika. Without vibration that would be no stimulus to the senses, and therefore, non-awareness of life. What we sense; however, does not convey the Real nature of things, for our senses deceive us, and our interpretation of what we sense is subjected to error; the brain sees what the mind wants it to see. Man, therefore, does not immediately realize or is aware of his transcendental being, his Absolute Self; he instead sees and believes that the skandas, his mortal aggregates is his Ego. Esoteric Buddhism teaches us that there is a self to be refuted and a Self to be accepted.; one is conventional, the other is absolute. The real nature of things the enlightened prince Gautama called sunyata or voidness. All is energy in motion; that which we call Spirit is energy vibrating at a tremendous rate; matter, on the other hand, is energy vibrating at the nadir of the cosmic scale of vibration. Nature, as scientists say, abhors a vacuum. Space is therefore apparent, and not Real. This seemingly contradicts the statement of the Buddhist that all is void; in reality, however, this substantiates Buddhism’s esoteric viewpoint of the false self and the Real Self. Space, and all manifestations therein, from this point of view are illusory; all is SELF, or being, and nothing can truly exist outside of it.

Man, like all other beings and intelligences is a focalized-pattern of energy manifesting within the Omni-consciousness of the One. At the present stage of his evolution, Man has come to realize the three-fold principle of awareness: the knower, the thing known and the knowing–this is a sense of separation, of duality; animals, especially domestic beasts, are on the verge of attaining this state through the cosmic process of individualization. As evolution proceeds, from the dualistic point of view, the present principle of awareness will merge into a state of Oneness, of being the All. From a dualist, Man becomes a non-dualist.

This paper may contain inconsistencies as it is presented in a shifting form from the dualistic to the non-dualistic point of view; but since we recognize the two truths, the relative and the absolute, it is hoped that readers would likewise adjust their understanding. Conventional truth was what Pontius Pilate enquired of his divine prisoner. Absolute truth was what Jesus sought to represent. The highest respect that can be paid to the Absolute, as all sages have discovered, is silence.

All organic matter is composed of infinitesimal lives, and a higher intelligence mould such life-infused matter into form. Within Man are lesser lives of sentient beings. The cells in his body are beings endowed with consciousness, although the nature of their consciousness can only be conjectured. Man, himself, is analogous to the cells in his body. The composite lives of human beings is a part of a greater being, a greater Life-unit. It is, therefore, rightly declared in scriptures that we live and move in His being. This phenomenon is what is known as the hylozoistic theory.

The Shiva Samhita, a manual on Yoga, declares:

He who . . . knows the microcosm of the body, being absolved from all sins, reaches the highest state.

We shall, therefore, take a closer look at the microcosm, for to know the Self and its expressions, it is important to understand something of the hidden constitution of Man; his occult anatomy and physiology, and his True Reality and purpose. We propose the following essential points of which we will discuss briefly:

1) The 7 Principles

2) The Chakras

3) The Principle Nadis & Kundalini

4) Chrism Oil & Brain Dews

5) Sutratma, Antahkarana & the Permanent Seed-Atoms

6) The Causal Body & Electronic Belt

7) The Dweller on the Threshold, I AM & the Flame Within

8) The Rays Governing Man & the Stream of Consciousness

9) Man’s Purpose on Earth

The 7 Principles

For Man to exist, to manifest in a realm, he would have to possess a body to function in. That there are 7 planes in the Physical Cosmic Plane, with each plane consisting of 7 subdivisions, making it 49 planes in all, is a teaching of modern Theosophy. The seven planes or dimensions are called, Physical, Astral, Mental, Buddhic, Atmic, Monadic, and Logoic. St. Paul’s third heaven goes no higher than the Astral Plane; while Prophet Muhammad’s (blessed in his name) journey to the seventh heaven is said to be in the Mental or Buddhic dimensions.

Teachings of the sages; however, differ in their division of Man into his component parts, his bodies or principles, as it is called by modern occultists. They divide Man into 3, 5, or 7–the most common being 3 and 7. This seemingly contradictory assertion by the Seers is probably because of their perspective and their methodology of conveying the Secret Doctrine. According to the triune system, the divisions labelled by Christian mystics are body, mind, and soul; or body, soul, and spirit. St. Paul, however, taught a system of dual bodies; he declared that we had a natural, and a spiritual body (I Cor 15:44). The triune concept within Christianity, it would seem, evolved a little later as the religion progressed in its influence within the European kingdoms. Other ancient traditions and modern mystical teachings acknowledged the division of Man’s being as a triad, among which are to be found in the following table:

Martinism | Buddhism | Hindu | Hebrew | Christianity | Theosophy

Ame | Dharmakaya | Atman | Ruach | Spirit | Monad

Plastic Envelope | Sambogakaya | Jiva | Neshamah | Soul | Ego

Physical Body | Nirmanakaya | Rupa | Nephesh | Body | Personality

Some liberal thinkers of occultism call the tripartite being of Man as self, Self, and SELF–which reminds one of the assertion of someone in a transcendental consciousness state: I AM, I AM THAT, or I AM THAT I AM. We should not, however, make the mistake of thinking that there are three selves. There is only one SELF functioning at various levels; and while burdened with matter, an aspect of the SELF is deluded into thinking that the physical body, emotions and mind are the foundation of its existence. It is possible to correspond the threefold being of Man, the Monad, Ego, and Personality with the following:

Monad — Man

Ego — Hu-man

Personality — Human Being

The Monad is Man, the spark of God, or the atom within God’s body; the Ego as Hu-man, has a portion of the Monad in its being, making it semi-divine; while the Personality as the Human Being upon the physical plane, has a fragment of the Ego, with a minuscule spark of the Monad in the Holy of Holies burning within the heart.

It might be appropriate here to define the word principle as used to refer to Man’s occult bodies. The American Heritage Dictionary defines it as a basic source. Principles, in our present context, therefore, are creative centers, sources and builders of forms for the spirit of Man to ensoul; they originate sheaths for the spirit of Man to function at the various levels or planes of the omniverse. According to the definition above, the lowest sheath, the physical body, is not considered a principle because it is not causative; it does not create or engender any other sheaths; of itself, it is lifeless. It is mainly reactive to pulsating streams of energy emanating from the higher principles; and without them, it lies inert. The physical body is sometimes; however, considered as a principle for the purposes of tabulating the list of bodies that Man functions in:

1) Divine Spirit or Atma

2) Life Spirit or Buddhi

3) Human Spirit or Higher Mental/Causal Body

4) Mental Sheath

5) Astral Body

6) Etheric Body

7) Physical Body

The physical body, as a pseudo-principle is sometimes replaced in the list by the fiery spark of Man, his core identity that emanated from the Spiritual Sun, called by Theosophists Monad, or Virgin Spirit by the Rosicrucians. Man’s individualized being, or Ego is represented by the threefold Spirit enumerated above: the Divine, Life and Human. The personality of Man’s being, on the other hand, sometimes called the Quarternary, or the lower trinity if the etheric-physical bodies are considered as one–is represented by the three lower bodies and the mental sheath. The Quarternary is the child of the higher trinity, Man’s Ego, while the Ego itself is an emanation of the Monad. Patterns of interlacing energy form that being we call Man.

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven (1 Cor 15:47)

According to the third point of the Quarternary Law of Martinism (not to be confused with the 4 lower principles of the microcosm), all emanations that proceed from a higher source carry a lesser amount of its progenitor’s characteristics, potencies and qualities. The Ego, according to this law, as a lesser manifestation of the Monad, expresses creative powers, intelligence, and consciousness in a lesser proportion to that which the Monad possesses. On a lower octave of the total spectrum of energy-principles, the Personality is in an analogous state. As a precious child of the Ego, it manifests very little of its emanator’s inherent divinity–although the seed, or image of the Monad, the flickering fire, does lie as a minute spark in the altar of the physical heart.

The Monad issued-out of the highest principle of the Solar Logos as a Divine Spark. It is sometimes called the Solar Angel. Solomon, or SOL-OM-ON, is a personification of this central core within the microcosm. The three syllables in the name of this Hebrew monarch, represent the Highest Principle in the Universe, or the Monad in three different languages : Hebrew, Hindu, and Egyptian.

Be-ness, or Being is the natural state of the Monad; becoming is the nature of the lower principles. The consciousness of the Spark of the Logos is divine, and its awareness and consciousness are attuned with Ra, or Helios, its progenitor. It is, in fact, a cellular body within the greater body of the Solar Logos. The Monad was created in God’s image and it is God’s likeness that the Ego is destined to become through the process of evolutionary transformation. It is through the Ego, the individualized Man, that the Monad fulfills its destiny, the reason for its be-ing. The Ego, however, is incapable of returning to the Monad, to merge with it without gaining the benefit of certain experiences and nourishment from the realms of Matter. It, therefore, engendered the Quarternary–the four lower bodies. The Human Spirit, or Higher Mental–the aspect of God’s intelligence, caused a crystallization of part of itself on a lower plane, and the Mental sheath was born. Buddhi, or the Life Spirit–the aspect of God’s Love, brought the Astral body into existence; and finally, Atma, or the Divine Spirit–the aspect of God’s Will, formed the etheric and physical bodies. The Quarternary evolves in the lower realms and conveys pabulum–or soul-force, the fruit of its physical sojourn, to the Ego. This was intended and designed by the Solar Logos; however, the Personality, the persona, sometimes strays from its destiny like a wayward child, like a prodigal son, with the consequences of spiritual stagnation along the evolutionary spiral.

One of the purposes of the Quarternary is to manifest fully Monadic-Consciousness in the lower worlds. This is preceded by the attainment of Egoic awareness. In Figure 1, we present graphically this attainment according to the stages of Man’s development represented by the average man, the Initiate, and the Adept. We symbolize the Monad with the circle, the Ego with the triangle, and the Quarternary with the square; and all three of them surrounded by the Auric-Egg, represented by the oval. This Auric-Egg is a subtle sac that encloses all of the components of the microcosm. In picture b, the Initiate begins to acquire Egoic awareness of which the average man in a lacks. In c the Adept possessing full Egoic-Consciousness, is just beginning to acquire Monadic awareness.

Although the subject of spiritual evolution is interesting and of prime importance to Self-knowing, we will continue with it later as it is a digression from our present subject. We will instead consider certain esoteric matters associated with the 7 principles.

As mentioned previously, Man is a septenate, and a threefold being; his seven principles corresponds to the seven realms. Man, in his present stage, is only aware of the physical plane. When his consciousness develops and unfolds in the normal course of evolution, he will be able to function with conscious Self-awareness in all seven planes of Life. We have mentioned the threefold-spirit above. The soul, or psyche of Man, is also threefold: it is conscious, emotional, and intellectual.

In Esoteric Christianity, the septenary in its division of 3 and 4, is personified by Joseph, Mary and Jesus–the Ego; and the quadruped, the ass, as the Quarternary. The docile nature of the beast indicates the mastery and complete control of the Ego over the Personality. Krishna’s chariot with Arjuna onboard has the same esoteric significance.

Some schools of esoteric thought call the Ego, Christ –the intermediary between God (Monad) and Man (Personality). St. Paul, in one of his letters, admonished his disciples to allow Christ to form within them. Esoterically, this refers to the growth of Egoic influence within the force-field of the Personality.

The Ego is the divine trinity within the microcosm. It is, in fact, the Real Man, the invisible, sentient, and intelligent being. It is bisexual or bipolar, possessing both the masculine and feminine polarities. It represents the Father/Mother God in the microcosm. Atma, the Father aspect, expresses omnipotence; while Buddhi, the Mother aspect–or the Holy Spirit, expresses omnipresence. The higher mental, or Abstract Mind, is that aspect of the Ego, the Son, which is omniscient. In the Qabalah, in the Tree of Life, the Ego is Tiphareth, whereas the Monad is represented by Kether. Intuition is a faculty that has its origin in the Ego–or in Buddhi, to be more specific. Divine Love and compassion are other expressions of the Buddhic principle. It stands to reason that to develop intuition one has to have compassion; love truly, unconditionally, wisely, and divinely. Alchemists of the Renaissance called Buddhi, the White Eagle.

In the Masonic mysteries, the threefold Ego is represented by King Solomon, King Hyram, and Hiram Abiff. The ruffians responsible for the death of the Master Mason, Hiram Abiff, are the personifications of the physical body, the astral form and the Mental sheath. The killing of Hiram is microcosmically speaking, the willful forgetfulness and disobedience of the lower self–the Personality, the false ego, towards the Higher Self–the Spiritual Triad. The lower mind, the intellect and desires, slays the Voice of Silence, the sway of the Ego; and the Word, that Word of God, which Hiram Abiff personifies, is lost in the being of the Master Mason. Recovery of that which was lost–the acceptance of Egoic influence into the life of the aspirant, occurs when the ruffians repent and align themselves to the higher will. When the Ego dominates the Personality, the aspirant has verily attained the title of a Master Mason. The aspirant acquires a greater understanding, a greater wisdom and a maturity of thought as a result of the resurrection of Hiram Abiff. Spiritual wisdom is the true criterion of Man’s age, and not the material years of the physical body.

Once the Ego has control over the personality, Monadic influence gradually comes into sway. The elements of the Monad and the Ego are collectively the stone that the builders, or the analytical intellect rejected. The word stone in Hebrew is Ahben. It is composed of two words Ah, meaning father, and Ben, meaning son. The stone is therefore, the oneness of the Monad–the Father, and the Ego–the Son. Mystical stones is a constant theme in various spiritual traditions. In Islam we have the Hajar Aswad in the Ka’ba. Solomon’s Temple was built with the shamir stone; the mystical Shambhalla preserves the Chintamani; in Revelation, the child of God is given a white stone, etc. The spiritual essence of the Quran itself is the letter Ba with a dot–the dot representing the Stone. This is a profound mystery that will not be discussed in this paper.

Are You Ready For Vista? What You Need To Know About The Next Microsoft Windows

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Vista is coming soon to a computer near you, are you ready? Unlike past editions of Microsoft Windows this new version seems to be generating a lot more pre-launch buzz. Maybe it has to do with all the new improved browsing and computer features that the Vista will supposedly deliver.

What is Vista?

Vista is the new version of Microsoft Windows, which will offer users a greatly improved browsing and computer experience mainly through more dynamic ‘live’ windows and faster presentation. It will offer a more robust security (direly needed!) and more business features in its corporate OS with encryption, Unix services, and virtual machine capabilities.

You will be able to use different graphical tools to more efficiently manage your information and applications on your desktop. If you read the information on the official Vista site, you may come away believing your desktop will never look or feel the same again. Vista Homepage: www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/

There is one underlying reason why this may just be the case. According to the Longhorn Statement of last year, RSS will play a major role in these applications and in the OS itself. Longhorn is the name for the Microsoft Windows Server code. RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ and Microsoft should be applauded for bringing RSS to the forefront. Many believe RSS will change the very nature of how we use the Internet and our computers.

Regardless of what it may contain, the new Windows Vista has many consumers delaying the purchase of their next PC or laptop until the new Windows arrives. Many were hoping for a pre-Christmas release but…

When Will Vista Arrive?

According to Microsoft’s own official site on Vista, Windows Vista will be available in early 2007. However, Vista (as of Sept.22, 2006) is already in Beta testing with over 30,000 testers from around the globe. Read more about this at the Windows Vista Team Blog: blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/default.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/default.aspx

Vista will have TWO Interfaces

Vista Windows will have two interfaces, Basic and Aero. The Basic Interface will be similar to Windows XP and will run on most current PCs and Laptops. The Aero Interface is more advanced and you will need higher system requirements to take advantage of all the new features. (See Below)

Actually, Vista will have six versions in all. According to the Vista web site these versions will range for the very basic up to the highest performance level.

* Windows Vista Starter which runs only on 32-bit systems and will be so on new machines in India, Thailand and other emerging markets.

* Windows Vista Home Basic which is very comparable to XP Home which will not offer the high-end graphics and media features.

* Windows Vista Home Premium which will offer these graphics and media.

* Windows Vista Business which is similar to the current XP Professional.

* Windows Vista Enterprise will be only available to those customers with volume licenses - will offer Unix service, encryption and virtual machine capabilities.

* Windows Vista Ultimate will combine Vista Enterprise and Vista Home Premium which will give customers the highest version of Windows.

There will also be N versions of Vista Business and Vista Home Basic for the European market that will have Window Media Player removed. Microsoft is catering to all levels of the marketplace and its a prudent business move because many current PCs and laptops don’t have the system requirements to take advantage of the highest version of Vista Aero.

Your System Requirements for Vista?

Your system requirements for the new Windows Vista will depend on which version of Vista you’re buying. For the basic Vista you will need a modern processor (800MHz or more) with at least 512 MB of system memory. Your graphics processor should be DirectX 9 capable.

For the fully loaded Vista you will need a little more robust system with at least 1 GHz processor with 1 GB of system memory. This should be supported with DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB of graphics memory. A premium graphics card like ATI or NVIDIA is recommended and you will need a 40 GB hard drive with 15 GB free space. In order to watch and record live TV you may have to add additional hardware.

Still not sure your current system will support Vista, just run the free Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor RC found here: www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

This program will tell you if your system can currently run Vista or if you will need to upgrade your computer.

What Noteworthy Features Will Vista Give You?

If we get over the improved features like better organizing of information, better security, and more reliability - what new features will the Vista deliver?

One that really jumps out - INSTANT SEARCH

Instead of using the slow cascading All Programs , you can just type in a file name or task and you will find what you’re looking for. The new instant start menu will be a lot quicker, saving you time.

This also jumps out - DYNAMIC WINDOWS

Perhaps, one of the major improvement will be in the appearance and use of the new desktop with transparent glass-like windows and animated windows on the taskbar. It will have live thumbnails on the taskbar, place your mouse over these and you will see the live contents without having to bring it up on your screen. You will also be able to create a three-dimensional stack of open windows on your desktop and you will have smoother performance in dynamic content or windows such as video.

And this one - SPEECH RECOGNITION

Speech Recognition will play a major role in the new Windows Vista which promises to feature all the latest Microsoft speech technologies with ‘unparalleled voice recognition accuracy’ supported with multiple languages and a more human-sounding synthesizer - step aside Stephen Hawkins!

Plus, you will be able to control your computer by using your voice. It will provide you with a list of smart choices, whether it’s selecting a word or choosing an application. Mouseless and hands-free computing tasks - might be worth seeing.

And this - WATCH AND RECORD LIVE TV

You will be able to watch and record live TV with Vista. You may have to use additional hardware to access this feature. It is only a matter of time before the union of the Internet and full TV broadcasting services. Windows Vista may help in furthering this rather slow process. Integration, Integration Integration.

Also this - BETTER SECURITY AND ENCRYPTION

The new Window Vista offers improved security and has a few new encryption programs. There is something called the Windows BitLocker? Drive Encryption which help protect the sensitive data on your hard drive - especially important in our ever increasing mobile lifestyles and workforces. This program will encrypt your entire Windows system and protect your information in the case of a stolen or lost PC or laptop.

Then there is the Encrypting File System (EFS) which will protect user-level files and folders. This is important when two or more people share the same computer as in a company network. Companies will be able to use smart cards with EFS keys to allow employees or workers to access only the content that’s appropriate for them to access. In addition, companies or users will be able to restrict use of USB keys and other removable storage devices, thus hampering the quick removal of data from your computer.

Wildcard - What role will RSS Play?

For interested techies and web watchers, the role RSS will play in the new Vista is an intriguing question. What about all those new RSS applications? The list extensions? What will it bring? Read more here blogs.msdn.com/rssteam/ http://blogs.msdn.com/rssteam/

Will RSS (via Vista) be given the means to finally turn the Internet into a Billion Channel Universe? Turning every web site into its own mini-broadcasting system sending out its content to all interested parties. Don’t come to us, we will deliver. Changing static content into dynamic content. Furthermore, will speech recognition turn this dynamic content into a fully interactive hands-free browsing experience. Might give a whole new meaning to the expression ‘Look Ma - no hands!’

All kidding aside, Windows Vista does offer some unique features that will change how we use our computers. It offers greater security and more integrated networking and applications. It does promise to make our desktop interaction more responsive and smoother with ‘live’ social bookmarks and windows. One can only hope Vista lives up to its name and gives us a whole new viewing experience.

The Andy Griffith Show (Season 3) DVD Review

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

One of the most beloved shows in television history, The Andy Griffith Show takes its viewers back to a simpler time of small town America, apple pie, and black and white television… The trademark whistling theme song is one of the most recognizable in history, and the duration of the show in syndicated reruns is unrivaled by its peers.

The Andy Griffith Show follows the exploits of the small town of Mayberry and its family-values, no nonsense sheriff Andy. Widowed, and father to a small boy named Opie (Ron Howard), Andy is joined in Mayberry by his sidekick Deputy Barney Fife, his relative and housekeeper Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and a host of other eccentric characters.

But the show stealer is Barney Fife (Don Knotts) who plays the role of a sometimes incompetent, kooky deputy always in over his head. The onscreen dynamic between Griffith and Knotts is truly magical. Both men would go on to heralded careers in show business with Knotts starring in numerous roles, such as Mr. Furley on Three’s Company, and Griffith as the title star of Matlock. And Ron Howard (Opie) would go on to establish himself as one of Hollywood’s most well-known directors…

The Andy Griffith Show (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere Mr. McBeevee in which Opie makes friends with a telephone repairman named Mr. McBeevee who he describes to Andy and Barney as a man who lives in the trees, jingles when he walks, and has twelve extra hands! Since they’ve never meet Mr. McBeevee, Andy and Barney think that Opie’s new friend is make believe - at least until Opie comes home with a quarter he says Mr. McBeevee gave him! Now, Andy must investigate or else risk punishing his son for stealing the quarter… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include Barney Mends a Broken Heart in which Barney complicates Andy’s love life by fixing him up with a new girl when Andy’s date, Peggy, cancels on him, and Barney and the Governor in which Barney is given a personal commendation by the Governor for his excellent job performance, but turns up drunk when Otis spikes the water cooler…

Parenting Advice

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Parenting advise comes in many different forms. Some may use a strict discipline, and others may use more of the friendship method. Whatever fits your family there are some important aspects to parenting that need to be looked at. These are Health, Education, and where to find parenting advise. Now days advise can be found on the internet or just about anywhere. But some of the good places to find advice are from your own parents, family members, psychologists, ministers of church, teachers, and other child professionals. Most importantly children will look at you for how they should act so if you don’t want your children to do something, then you should not do it. Parents need to be active in their child’s life at all times, only then will a parent truly know what the child needs.

One aspect of great parenting is to make sure your child’s health is taken care of. This does not just mean eating healthy, but also excerise and getting good doctor check-ups is part of that. As a parent you should encourage your child to eat three good balanced meals a day and if snacks are required then a good snack of veggies would help in curving your child’s way of eating. Also involvement in sports or just other activities than watching TV, playing video games and working on the computer. Even try to take your child out and do some activity with them. And then lastly, taking your child to the doctor for regular check-ups will help give your child a well rounded healthy life.

Education for our children is also another important aspect of raising our children. Sometimes making the choice of which educational choice is right for your child/family is a tough one. Just because most people you know choose a specific venue, does not mean it is the best for your child/family. Some families have children in several different educational venues. There are several choices, such as public, private, and home school. There are many things in all venues of education that will help your child get a good education. In public and private schools teachers are a good source for helping you know what to do to help your children. It is just a matter of asking for that help and then acting on it. It does not do any good to ask the teacher what you can do to help and then do nothing after getting the suggestions. Take an active part in your child’s education, just as you do in their physical and spiritual aspects of their lives. Knowing what the school is teaching your child should not be a mystery to you. Volunteer to chaperone a field trip, or help out the teacher in class occasionally. Teachers will help you find ways to be involved. Not only will it help your child, but others as well. This brings us to home schooling as a venue. Don’t believe all the myths out there about home schooling. Find some people in your community that do it and check it out. It may be what is right for you. There are so many educational helps today for home schooling that it is not as hard as you may think. Two of the most frequent objections heard today about home schooling, besides education are I couldn’t do it because my child doesn’t listen to me and we argue too much. It may be surprising to some of these people how much their child would actually begin to listen because that child has their parents attention and care for more than a few minutes each day. I have not heard of too many home schooling parents or children that don’t grow closer to one another. The other frequent objection besides education is that there is a lack of social experience, though this may be true for some, (which is only because that family would not be out doing anything outside the home) it is not the norm. Most home schoolers get involved in homeschool co-ops that get together with other home schoolers each week, and it would be safe to say most have neighbors that they play with. There are even classes that kids can take from other home schooling parents that teach in the co-ops that not only help with the social aspect, but the educational one because these other teachers usually have degrees in these subjects. Homeschooling does not have to mean a lesser education because you don’t think you are smart enough or can’t remember things you did know once upon a time. It also does not mean your child can not learn from and interact with the outside world. It may also be surprising how much can be accomplished with that unruly, rebellious child, and how much the parent and child may grow closer to one another and be able to work together.

With all these aspects of parenting, choose what is right for you and your family and grow together. Parenting advice is out there in many different forms, read and learn on all the different parenting ways, health, and education for your family and make a plan to succeed in parenting. One day you may be helping others with parenting advice.
